Lions & Leopards, The Work of Dereck and Beverly Joubert

National Geographic Museum
1145 17th Street NW
Washington, D.C., US   20036

National Geographic Explorers Dereck and Beverly Joubert have spent over two decades documenting the lives of lions and leopards. Living in a tent or out of a survey vehicle, they spend months at a time in the field following and observing these top predators. Stunning footage and intimate fine art prints offer a compelling and poetic case for stewardship of these threatened species.

For over 25 years the Jouberts have made wild Africa home, dedicating their lives to understanding and protecting its majestic creatures. Through extensive research, filmmaking, and publishing, the Jouberts have brought us new insights into the social structures and predator/prey relationships among Africa’s wild animals.

Recently, these National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence have focused on the dire plight of the big cats—lions, tigers, cheetahs, and leopards—at a time when lions number fewer than 20,000 and may cease to exist in the wild beyond 2050.

The Jouberts’ work has been honored with five Emmy awards, The Foster Peabody award, the Jules Verne award and, in 2008, the World Ecology Award, previously given to HRH The Prince of Wales, Jane Goodall, and Jacques Cousteau, among others.  Telephone: 1 -202- 857- 7588.  Monday – Saturday: 9 am to 5 pm; Sundays: 10am to 5 pm. Free admission.  Visit http://events.nationalgeographic.com/events/exhibits/2009/02/18/lions-leopards/

Unity Christ Church
111 Central Avenue
Gaithersburg, MD 20877

"Will Tuttle's uplifting original piano music evokes deep feelings and a sense of coming home."

An acclaimed pianist, composer and recording artist, as well as a Dharma Master in the Zen tradition, author, and former philosophy professor, he has presented concerts widely throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. These concerts present music in the ancient way, as a transformational vehicle of consciousness, not merely as entertainment. Music has long been understood to open inner doorways of insight, healing, compassion, and communion. It is a language of intuition heard by our hearts.

“When playing the piano, he works from his Buddha-nature, floating, not trying; beyond mistakes.”
